Chris Desaulniers, Canada/ Febuary 2011

Christopher Desaulniers, a 29-year old Canadian guys has taken a year off starting from May 2011 to travel around the world on his bike. Ubon Ratchathani is one of the places he decided to visit and learn to give with us. Now he is here with us and let’s learn more about what he will say about his volunteer time for the children of Isaan

L2G: What inspires you to travel around the world with your bike?

Chris: The opportunity to explore the rural areas in SE Asia and travel at a speed that would allow me to digest the people and surrounds. As well as be challenged.

L2G: How is L2G different from other voluntary programs that you have taken part during your around- the-world trip?

Chris: It was the only one I took part in, so unable to compare.

L2G: To which groups of people (e.g. school teachers, students, villagers, ECClubbers) do you think your arrival contributed and what merits did you get from the program?

Chris: I hope to have contributed to the students to encourage them to continue to learn English as well as travel. I hope my post volunteer review will contribute to the ECClubbers being able to tweak the program and make it that much better. I was challenged by being put into a new environment and teaching in a classroom setting for the first time

L2G: How can you tell the interested people from around the world to come volunteer with us?

Chris: Word of mouth and online.

L2G: Have you been working with children before coming to us? And how did it affect your teaching at the school? Please share with us.

Chris: My prior volunteer experience with Boy Scouts allowed me to integrate games into the learning experience .

L2G: How about your host school/family?

Chris: The experience was urban oppose to rural as I had anticipated, that said they were accommodating.

L2G: What was the strangest local food you have tried during your volunteer term?

Chris: Ant larva

L2G: Of all the places you have visited, how is Ubon Ratchathani different from them? And what is the most impressive thing you have done with the local people?

Chris: It was a medium size Thai city, it was more about the experience of living for a couple of weeks that made it different. Going into the countryside.

L2G: Give us three adjective words that best describe Learn2Give Project.

Chris: Caring, Heartfelt and with motive

L2G: Has your around-the-world trip, including your experiences with L2G been the life changing experience to you?

Chris: I would say it is the beginning of, travel will continue to be incorporated in my life going forward.
